Planner Board – SharePoint Webpart Development
Overview

About the project

The Planner Board SharePoint webpart, as the name suggests, gives you a visual, intuitive interface for tactical planning. It helps you organize complex projects, work plans, and events. Also, it tracks work continuously with a chart view. The planner enhances your work effectiveness because it gives insights from a monitored view of the process. As a result, collaboration among teams becomes clearer and objectives come sooner. Performance can be measured efficiently, which supports growth for individuals and for the whole organization. Moreover, you can group and categorize items easily using bucket-based board views. You can analyze plans in your preferred view, a board or a list. The drag option lets you move items from one bucket to another. Finally, the planner groups items by default or by user-defined dimensions, including “Progress” and “Assigned To”. Challenge

The challenge

The client needed a platform for the project and development process. It had to streamline the project plan, track the status, and give a visual view of both. From defining their own buckets to grouping projects, the client needed an exceptional board. It had to allow task management with unique appearances and customization options.

Solution

What we built

We designed a solution with simple grouping options, “Progress” and “Assigned To,” as well as user-defined dimensions. With it, the client can group by out-of-box dimensions and categorize through the bucket-based board view. The solution has these features:

1. First, you can create a new plan whenever a new project or strategy comes up, or select an existing one.

2. Second, you can convert items in existing SharePoint lists into plans that you execute and arrange visually.

3. Third, you can add one or many buckets as the project needs or as your work plans grow more complex.

4. Finally, user-defined buckets make it easy to group projects, and drag and drop lets you arrange items in buckets.

Result

The result for the client

Planning and organizing are the two most crucial stages of starting a project, continuing it, and reaching its final objective. The client needed a management tool to streamline the plan, assign tasks to users, track work, create buckets, and group items. For this reason, we designed a solution that saved time. It also improved the final result by giving the view the client asked for. As a result, the client now has a better strategic planner to assess, distribute and monitor tasks.
