Assure Yourself Of These Things Before You Migrate to Magento 2.0

Magento has ended support for Magento 1 (the end date was June 2020). As a result, you no longer have a choice: you must migrate to Magento 2 to keep your online store working and protected. You also need to decide how soon to move, and the sooner the better.

However, before you start, there are a few things to consider. If you prepare your store well, you get the most from the migration from Magento 1 to Magento 2.

Preparing to Migrate to Magento 2

1. Data Screening and Filtration

You obviously have a lot of data on your website, but not all of it is useful. There is no point in taking irrelevant data to the new platform. Such data only takes up space and affects how your website works. It is better to remove it at the start.

So, start by screening your data. Filter what is necessary, and delete what is not required.

2. Replicate Your Data Before You Migrate to Magento 2

You can never be fully sure about technology. Even when you are careful, the risk of data loss is always there. Data loss can seriously harm your business.

So, protect yourself against this risk. Make a copy of your entire Magento 1 database before you migrate to Magento 2.

3. Freeze Your Activities

If you run admin activities during the migration, you may leave loose ends. As a result, the migration may not work as well.

Therefore, stop all your activities during the dry run and the migration itself. This way, the migration goes smoothly.

4. Create a Plan to Migrate to Magento 2

An organized migration to the new platform needs a plan. First, create a blueprint of what you expect from the migration and how you want it to happen.

Then, stick to that blueprint. Allow changes only where you cannot avoid them. Following the plan will always give you the best results.

5. Upgrade Your Site

When you migrate your site, you get a chance to look at it critically. You can see where it needs upgrades and improvements. Such upgrades also help the site work better on the new Magento 2 platform, so you gain the highest benefits from it.

So, be sure to upgrade your website. That way, you can take advantage of every opportunity that Magento 2 offers.
