Businesses increasingly need a digital presence to expand their operations and go global, beyond their local boundaries. They understand the importance of web development services. As a result, they build functional and robust websites on various platforms and content management systems. Two of the most popular are WordPress and Magento. Blogging and e-commerce often go hand in hand on these platforms.
WordPress for Blogging
WordPress is an open-source content management system. It started out as a platform for bloggers, and this is why it is still the best platform for blogging.
Anyone who wants to start a blog, or create a website mainly for blogging, will prefer WordPress development services.
Magento for E-Commerce
Magento is another open-source platform. It is a dedicated e-commerce development solution. WordPress is the king of blogging, and Magento is the king of e-commerce. You can build very functional e-commerce stores and sites on these platforms.
Why Combine Blogging and E-Commerce?
When you run an e-commerce website, you should also blog. Blogging is one of the best ways to do SEO on your website and drive traffic to it. Also, if you run a blog, you can monetize it better by linking it to an e-commerce store. There you can offer the products and services that you blog about.
So, blogging and e-commerce often go hand in hand. A proper integration of both can go a long way in boosting your business.
You can create a blog on Magento by using extensions from the Magento plugin directory. You can also create an e-store on WordPress by using a good e-commerce extension from the WordPress plugin directory. However, this may not give you the best blog on your Magento e-store, or the best e-store on your WordPress website.
There might be a better way: integrating Magento and WordPress together. This gives you the best of both worlds. You only need a Magento WordPress integration plugin and a few easy steps. Here is how you can do it.
How to Integrate Magento and WordPress
You might have a Magento store and want to add WordPress to it. Or you might have a WordPress website and want to add Magento to it. You can integrate both ways. In either case, you need to use a plugin.
Integrating WordPress into Magento
You can integrate a WordPress blog into Magento with the FishPig Magento WordPress Integration Plugin. Follow these steps.
- Step 1: Install WordPress in a different folder. It can be in the root directory or a sub-directory.
- Step 2: After you install WordPress, install the Magento WordPress Integration plugin on the platform.
- Step 3: Log on to your Magento Admin and find “WordPress” in the Admin Panel. Navigate to “WordPress” and then click on “Settings”.
- Step 4: Configure all the details on the Magento platform. Enter the URL for your blog and the path to your WordPress installation directory.
- Step 5: After you configure the details on Magento, do the same on WordPress. Log on to your WordPress Dashboard, go to “Settings” and then click on “General”. You will find an option to fill in your Magento URL. Fill it in correctly.
Once you do this, your Magento WordPress integration is installed successfully. Both platforms now work together.
Integrating Magento into WordPress
For this integration, you install a plugin directly on your WordPress website. Look in the WordPress plugin directory and select a good Magento WordPress integration plugin. Follow these steps.
- Step 1: Log in to your “WordPress Dashboard”, find “Plugins” and then click on “Add New”.
- Step 2: Add the required plugin and then go back to your WordPress Dashboard.
- Step 3: On your Dashboard, navigate to “Settings”. There you will find an option “Mage/WP”. Click on it.
Then you need to make the required settings. Set the PHP path for your Magento store. Set the Magento theme name. Also set the package name of your Magento installation. Basically, you configure your Magento store for the WordPress website.
When you finish these settings, your Magento blocks appear on WordPress and the integration is done.
This is how you can integrate your WordPress blog and Magento store. You take the most advantage of these two robust platforms, and you take your blogging and e-commerce business to a whole new level. To learn more, read about WordPress or contact our team.
